How do I measure for an RV skylight replacement?

Measure the rough opening cut in your roof, not the outer flange or the dome of the old skylight. Remove the interior trim ring, then measure the opening length and width from inside the RV. Opening sizes vary by RV manufacturer, so confirm both dimensions before ordering. Also measure the flange width on your current skylight. The new flange needs enough flat roof surface around it to seat on butyl tape.

Can I replace only the outer RV skylight cover?

Yes. If the outer dome is cracked or yellowed but the frame and roof opening are sound, an outer cover replacement is the usual fix. To install it:ul>li>Remove the old screws and sealant./li>li>Clean the roof surface around the opening./li>li>Lay new butyl tape under the flange and fasten the new cover./li>li>Finish with self-leveling lap sealant over the flange edge and screw heads./li>/ul>Confirm the lap sealant is rated for your roof material (EPDM, TPO, or fiberglass). While you are on the roof, check the sealant on other roof penetrations, such as RV cable hatches. Inner trim rings are sold separately from outer covers.

What do I need to know before ordering an RV shower skylight replacement?

Match the roof opening dimensions, not the size of the visible dome. Shower skylights are often taller than standard skylights to add headroom over the tub or stall.
