Water is one of the biggest threats to any RV. A small gap around a roof vent, window frame, or seam might seem minor, but left unsealed it can allow moisture to work its way into the walls and cause serious damage over time. Staying on top of sealant maintenance is one of the most effective ways to protect your RV's structure and interior.

Our selection of RV sealants covers a range of applications, including roof sealants, lap sealants, self-leveling compounds, and flexible caulks suited to different surfaces and materials. Not all sealants are compatible with every RV surface, so check your RV's roof material and manufacturer recommendations before selecting a product.

The Ultimate Guide to RV Roof Repair and Maintenance: A Roadmap to a Leak-Free Journey

Understanding the ins and outs of RV roof care is crucial for preserving your home-on-wheels and ensuring worry-free travels.

What is the best RV roof sealant for my roof?

The best RV roof sealant is the one rated for your roof membrane. Before ordering, confirm whether your roof is EPDM rubber, TPO, fiberglass, or aluminum. A sealant that is not rated for your membrane may not bond and can lift within a season. For seams, vent flanges, and fixtures on a flat roof, a self-leveling lap sealant is the standard repair product. Check the compatibility statement on the product label, or text or call 817-984-1852 with your RV make and model and we'll confirm the right match.

What is the difference between self-leveling and non-sag RV caulk?

Self-leveling caulk flows into a smooth, even bead after you apply it. Use it on horizontal surfaces such as roof seams, vent and skylight flanges, and antenna bases. On a vertical or sloped surface it will run, so use a non-sag lap sealant for front and rear caps, sidewall trim, and roof edges. When you mount sidewall or roof penetrations such as RV cable hatches, match the sealant type to the mounting surface.

Can I use silicone sealant on an RV roof?

Avoid silicone on rubber and TPO roofs. Lap sealants and most roof coatings will not adhere over cured silicone, so any future repair means scraping out every trace of it first. Silicone sealant is better suited to interior jobs such as sink and shower surrounds, where the label permits. For anything on the roof membrane, use a lap sealant rated for that membrane.

How do I prepare my roof before applying RV caulk?

Remove any sealant that is cracked, peeling, or pulling away from the surface. Well-bonded lap sealant of the same type can stay in place and be covered with fresh material. Clean the area with a cleaner approved for your roof membrane, let it dry fully, and apply within the temperature range printed on the tube. Cure times vary by product, so check the label before exposing the repair to rain.

How often should I inspect and reseal my RV roof?

Inspect the roof at least twice a year and after hail or contact with tree limbs. Look closely at vent flanges, skylights, antenna mounts, and seams, and reseal only the areas that show cracks or gaps. A rooftop air conditioner seals to the 14"×14" opening with a foam gasket compressed by its mounting bolts, not with caulk. If water is coming in around a unit from our Coleman RV air conditioners range, check the gasket and bolt torque first. Replacement gaskets and hardware for Furrion units are in Furrion RV air conditioner parts and accessories.
