How do I know my RV toilet seal needs replacement?

The two most common signs are a bowl that will not hold water between flushes and a sewer odor in the bathroom. A dried, cracked, or warped flush ball seal lets water drain into the black tank and lets tank gases back up. Water or staining around the base of the toilet points to a failed floor flange seal instead. Replacing the worn seal usually fixes the leak without replacing the whole toilet.

What is the difference between a toilet bowl seal and a floor flange seal?

The bowl seal (also called a flush ball seal or blade seal) sits inside the toilet and holds water in the bowl. The floor flange seal is a gasket between the toilet base and the floor flange, and it keeps waste and odor from escaping at the floor. Each part fails differently. Confirm which one is leaking before you order.

How do I find the correct camper toilet seal for my model?

Find the model and series label, usually on the back or base of the toilet. Seals are model-specific. A seal for a Dometic 300 series will not fit a Thetford Aqua-Magic, and older and newer versions of the same brand can use different parts. Match the series name and number in each product listing before you order. If the label is missing, text or call 817-984-1852 with photos of your toilet and our team will help you find the right replacement.

Do Thetford and Dometic RV toilet seals interchange?

No. Thetford and Dometic use different bowl and flange designs, so their seals are not cross-compatible. Within one brand, check the specific series as well. A Thetford RV toilet seal for one Aqua-Magic version may not fit another.

Can I replace an RV toilet seal myself?

Yes. Most RV toilet seal kit installs are a DIY job with basic hand tools. Shut off the water supply and empty the black tank first. A floor flange seal requires unbolting the toilet from the floor. Do not use petroleum jelly or petroleum-based lubricants on a new seal, because they can cause the rubber to swell and break down. Use a toilet seal lubricant or conditioner instead, and apply it periodically so the seal stays pliable.
