Your RV's LP gas hoses connect your propane supply to the appliances that depend on it, including your furnace, water heater, stovetop, and refrigerator. Over time, hoses can crack, stiffen, or develop leaks at the fittings, and a hose that is no longer in good condition should be replaced promptly.

Inspecting your LP hoses regularly is a straightforward part of routine RV maintenance. When a replacement is needed, getting the correct length, diameter, and fitting type matters for a safe and reliable connection. Our selection covers a range of LP gas hose configurations to suit common RV propane system setups.

What is an RV propane pigtail hose, and which fittings do I need?

A pigtail hose is the short LP gas hose that connects your propane cylinder to the RV's regulator. The cylinder end is usually a POL fitting (left-hand thread) or a QCC1/Type 1 quick-connect. The regulator end is commonly a 1/4" inverted flare. Before ordering, check both ends of your existing pigtail and measure its length so the replacement reaches the cylinder without stretching or kinking.

How do I know when my RV gas hose needs replacement?

Replace an RV gas line if the rubber is cracked, stiff, swollen, or abraded, if a fitting is corroded, or if you smell propane near the cylinder or regulator. A damaged hose can also restrict flow, so an LP appliance that won't stay lit is worth checking at the hose first. If the hose is sound and the appliance has failed, our 10 gallon RV water heaters are direct replacements for many gas/electric units.

Can I use any rubber propane hose on my RV?

No. Use only hose rated for LP gas. Water hose and fuel hose break down when exposed to propane. Pressure rating also matters. Pigtails between the cylinder and the regulator carry high pressure, and hoses after the regulator run at low pressure, so match the replacement to the position it fills in your system.

How do I check for leaks after installing a new LP gas hose?

Tighten each fitting to the manufacturer's spec. Then open the cylinder valve slowly and brush a soap-and-water solution over every connection. Growing bubbles mean a leak, so shut the valve and reseat the fitting. Never test with a flame. Once the connections hold, relight your LP appliances, such as Dometic 6 gallon RV water heaters, and confirm each one lights and stays lit.
