Roof vents play an important role in keeping air moving through your RV, helping to reduce heat buildup, control moisture, and improve overall comfort inside the cabin. When a vent lid cracks, yellows, or breaks from weather exposure or road vibration, it needs to be replaced promptly to prevent rain and debris from getting in.

Whether you need a complete powered roof vent with a built-in fan or simply a replacement lid for an existing vent, our selection covers both. We carry Ventline roof vents and lids in the standard 14"" x 14"" size, available in white and smoke finishes, including 12V powered options.

What size is a standard RV roof vent?

Most RV roof vents fit a 14"x14" roof opening, the same size used by most rooftop air conditioners. Measure the cut opening in the roof from inside the coach, not the outer flange, because flange sizes vary by manufacturer. If you are converting a vent opening for cooling, the 14"x14" opening fits most Coleman RV air conditioners. Confirm that your roof framing can carry the unit's weight and that you have a dedicated 115V circuit before ordering.

Can I replace just the vent lid instead of the whole roof vent?

Yes, if the frame and base are intact and not leaking at the flange. Replacement lids are frame-specific: hinge pin location, lift arm attachment point, and lid dimensions all have to match your existing vent. Check the manufacturer name molded into the frame and measure the old lid before ordering. If the frame is cracked or water is getting in around the flange, replace the full vent assembly.

What is the difference between a vent lid and an RV roof vent cover?

The lid is the hinged panel that opens and closes the vent. An RV roof vent cover mounts over the entire vent, so you can leave the lid open during rain or while parked for ventilation. A cover also shields the lid from direct sun and hail. Most covers attach to the vent frame or roof with brackets and screws, so check the mounting method against your roof type before ordering.

What do I need to seal a new RV roof vent?

Plan on butyl tape under the vent flange, the mounting screws, and a self-leveling lap sealant rated for your roof membrane (EPDM, TPO, or fiberglass). Measure your roof thickness as well, since the interior garnish ring has to match it. The same sealing method applies to other roof penetrations, including RV cable hatches for satellite and solar wiring.

Why do RV vent lids crack, and how do I avoid ordering the wrong replacement?

Plastic vent lids break down under UV exposure and become brittle after years of direct sun. A roof vent cover slows that wear. When you order a replacement, have the frame manufacturer, lid dimensions, and hinge style on hand. Our team at United RV Parts can confirm fitment before you buy. Text or call 817-984-1852.
