Tragaluces rectangulares exteriores

The outer dome is the half that fails. It sits in full sun and takes every branch and hailstone, so it yellows, crazes and eventually cracks while the inner panel below it stays fine. Replacing it is a roof job rather than an interior one, since the flange is screwed down and bedded in self-leveling lap sealant.

Specialty Recreation sizes these by the flange in inches, width first, from 15 by 18 up to 22 by 34, with a 21 by 62 glue mount version for coaches that use a bonded skylight.

Dome height varies too. A standard dome stands proud of the roof, a low profile sits closer for covered storage, and a tall dome adds headroom in the shower. Match the height as well as the footprint, and order sealant at the same time.

What is an outside rectangular RV skylight?

An outside rectangular RV skylight is the exterior dome that mounts on the roof over your bath or living area, sealing the cutout against weather while letting natural light through. The outer dome is the part that takes UV and impact damage first, so it is the most common replacement piece. Measure the outside flange length and width before ordering, since rectangular skylights come in several common sizes and are not interchangeable.

How do I measure my RV skylight for a replacement?

Measure the outside dome at its widest points (length and width of the flange), then measure the roof opening itself. The flange should overlap the cutout by roughly 1 inch on all sides. Also note the dome height if clearance under an awning or AC shroud is a concern. If you need help matching dimensions to a specific part, browse our Specialty Recreation skylights or the matching inside square skylights for the interior trim.

Can I install a rectangular skylight myself?

Yes. Replacement is straightforward for most DIY owners: remove the old sealant and screws, lift the cracked dome, clean the roof flange, lay a fresh bead of self-leveling lap sealant, set the new skylight, and drive the screws back into the original holes. Plan for 30 to 60 minutes plus cure time. Pair the install with related roof work from our Hengs vent accessories collection if you are resealing nearby vents at the same time.

Why do RV skylights crack or yellow?

Acrylic and polycarbonate domes degrade under constant UV exposure, hail strikes, and tree branch contact. Yellowing is sun damage; cracking is usually impact or stress at the screw holes from over-tightening. Replacing the outer dome restores light transmission and stops leaks before water reaches the interior ceiling panel. Confirm your model number before ordering to make sure you get the correct fit.
